Affordable Housing Advocacy Group Meeting Minutes

 

Date: July 2, 2025 (with updates)

Location of meeting:  Via Zoom

Time meeting was called to order: 7:15pm

Attendees:  Kristin Berg, Nan Parson, Melani Kaplan, Kathy Rolsing, Kate Kerin, Lori Snelson, Jeanne Wells

1)      Housing Plan

a)      Housing Plan Implementation

i)       The change.org petition has 218 signatures as of 7/14 and 213 as presented to the City Council.

ii)      The petition and signatures were presented at the 7/8 City Council meeting.  The petition was read by Kristin and verbally supported by Nan and Kate.  The petition and signatures were part of the Agenda and may be accessed on the City’s website.

iii)    We will follow up with the City Council with a presentation of new data on AH from Harvard’s State of the Nation Housing Report in August

iv)    Nan and Kristin will meet with Drew Awsumb in August on the following topics:

(1)  Vacant properties in Park Ridge

(2)  Economic Development Plan that would include housing

(3)  Outreach to affordable housing developers

(4)  Comprehensive Plan

b)      Monitor City Council/COW agendas for any Housing Plan discussions/actions/proposed multifamily and senior housing development

i)       There was nothing to report here.

c)      Monitor PZC Agendas for any Housing Plan discussions/actions/proposed multifamily and senior housing development

i)       There was nothing to report on here.

 

2)      Comprehensive Plan

a)      The PZC has not yet begun working on the other sections of the Comp Plan, putting in jeopardy the estimated completion date of year-end.

 

3)      The Rockford IL Economic Plan will be discussed with Drew Awsumb in August. There may be a follow-up with Mayor Maloney to connect him with the Mayor of Rockford.

 

4)      Harvard’s State of the Nation Housing Report.  A summary will be presented to the City Council in August.

 

5)      A visit to the National Public Housing Museumwill be planned for September.

 

6)      Kathy reported on the event that the Center of Concern is planning:  Beyond Loneliness - Housing Stability for Successful Aging, featuring a panel, on September8, 5:30-8:30 pm at the Des Plaines Theater.  Entrance is free.  So far, US Congresswoman Delia Ramirez and Illinois State Representative Michelle Mussman plan to attend. Kristin and Melani will be contacted to possibly serve on th eEvent Planning Committee.

 

7)      Melani talked about the Groundbreaking on Tuesday7/22 for Poupard Place, a 48 unit property for people with disabilities in Northbrook.
